In order to determine the proper length of shock needed for your
application, you will be required to remove the existing shocks from
your motorcycle. Follow the steps provided below and make
notes where necessary. Use this information when ordering your
new shocks. To print this page, just press the print button on

Step 1. |
Raise your motorcycle frame to allow the removal of rear
shocks. |
Step 2. |
Remove the existing rear shocks. |
Step 3. |
Lower the motorcycle frame until the rear tire contacts the
fender, belt guard or any other object that would cause
interference. USE CAUTION. |
Step 4. |
From this point, raise the motorcycle frame approximately
1/2". This is to provide additional clearance. |
Step 5. |
Measure the distance, in inches, between the upper shock
mounting point and the lower shock mounting point. This
is the "Collapsed Length." (Figure A) |
Step 6. |
Raise the motorcycle frame to the desired ride height. This is the height in which the motorcycle will sit at without
rider weight. |
Step 7. |
Measure the distance, in inches, between the upper shock
mounting point and the lower shock mounting point. This
is the "Extended Length". (Figure B) |

Step 8. |
Please provide the measurements of both the Collapsed (Figure
A) and Extended Lengths (Figure B) when ordering your Smooth
Ride Shocks. |
PLEASE NOTE: |
Smooth Ride Custom Shocks may require mounting
hardware modifications for installation on some bikes.
Be sure to check each shock for proper alignment and
clearance. Use a thin wall socket for installation with
standard hex hardware (B&T Hardware kits are available), do
not use a crescent or pipe wrench. Use of incorrect
tools may result in damage to shocks. B&T Manufacturing
will not be responsible for damages caused by improper
mounting, installer abuse or contact with frame or swing arm. |
